Job Title: Material Planner

Location: Telford

Salary: 45k Circa

 

The Role

The Material Planner will play a critical role in ensuring the right materials are available at the right time to support production schedules. Reporting to the Supply Chain Manager, the successful candidate will manage stock levels, coordinate with suppliers, and work closely with production teams to optimise material flow and reduce disruption.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and manage material requirements to meet production schedules and customer commitments.

  • Maintain optimal inventory levels, balancing cost, availability, and lead times.

  • Monitor stock levels and coordinate timely replenishment with suppliers.

  • Work closely with production, procurement, and quality teams to resolve material issues.

  • Analyse material usage trends, generate reports, and provide recommendations for process improvement.

  • Support the implementation of inventory control strategies and lean manufacturing principles.

  • Liaise with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery and resolve supply chain issues.

  • Maintain accurate records in ERP/MRP systems, ensuring data integrity.

Candidate Requirements

  • Proven experience in material planning, production planning, or supply chain in a manufacturing environment, preferably automotive.

  • Strong knowledge of MRP/ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Dynamics, or similar).

  • Excellent organisational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritise tasks effectively.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

  • Understanding of lean manufacturing and just-in-time (JIT) principles is desirable.

Desirable

  • Experience in a Tier 1 automotive or high-volume manufacturing environment.

  • Knowledge of logistics, supplier management, and procurement processes.

  • Experience in continuous improvement initiatives.
